Our mission at Tahona is to educate and give reverence to the complexity and beauty of the Mexican culture through its most iconic beverage, mezcal and to become an epicenter of mezcal culture in San Diego. Inside our space, you can enjoy amazing cocktails, have incredible Oaxacan inspired food and taste some of the best mezcals out there. Our team has selected over 120 kinds of mezcals and our tasting experiences are meant to be fun and educational.
Welcome to Tahona Bar & Tasting room!
Our mission at Tahona is to educate and give reverence to the complexity and beauty of the Mexican culture through its most iconic beverage, Mezcal. Inside our space, you can enjoy incredible cocktails, amazing contemporary Mexican cuisine with Oaxacan bites and taste some of the best mezcals out there!
Our space: we are located next one of the most iconic historical landmark: the Campo Santo Cemetery in Old Town. Inside Tahona, you will be transported to a modern Mexican hacienda: from the hand painted tiles & handmade rope seats to the traditionally crafted fabric brought from Oaxaca in our banquettes, we hope that you will enjoy all the authentic elements throughout our space. Every piece of furniture has been created by either a local artisan or an artisan across the border.
As a socially responsible business, we support the work that Corazon de Vida is doing with 10 orphanages and over 550 disenfranchised children in Baja California. Our first project is to open the first art center at Rancho de los Ninos, an orphanage located in Valle de Guadalupe. Just as mezcal is a powerful force to learn about geo-political and environment issues, art is a powerful medium for healing and creating a deeper connection with the soul and we are excited to be part of this project.
We look forward to welcome you in the world of Tahona!

TAHONA MEZCAL SOCIETY
Mezcal has a long-standing tradition of being produced by mezcaleros to be enjoyed in their communities surrounded by friends and family. We created the Mezcal Society for that very reason. It is our hope that through this group, that not only you gain a greater understanding of what makes mezcal so special but that you will be an active member of our community. We will provide you with insider access into a society built by traditions and opportunities to connect, learn and participate!

We have selected over 100 kinds of mezcals for you to taste. Our tasting room is meant as a place of exploration that will allow you to expand your knowledge about agave spirits and what makes Mezcal so unique!
Our mezcal expert, Steven Sadri, will guide your tasting experience and our goal is to give you an opportunity to learn from the basics to the most intricate part of the mezcal process. We have crafted several experiences you can choose from or we can adapt one just for your party.
Every month we will be hosting events with maestro mezcaleros and brand ambassadors so you will always have an opportunity keep learning. Make sure you check out our calendar of events!
The Mezcal Paradox
Like all the best things in life, mezcal, at its heart, is full of paradox.
It is, at once, both ceremonial and fun. It’s used as a medicine but, if you’re not careful, gets you royally wasted. It’s for every day, while being rather special.
It comes from an indomitable culture, thousands of years old, that has permeated most corners of the planet, yet no one seems to have heard of it.
Currently, it is baffling sommeliers and celebrity chefs everywhere with the possibilities offered by its sophistication. While back home in Mexico, it’s being made with the most rustic and rudimentary set-ups possible. “ Tom Bullock
